dc.description	El trabajo examina la integración de la elite comercial-propietaria de Xalapa al circuito financiero internacional del Porfiriato (1904-1910). En primer lugar se aborda la fundación de la Sucursal del Banco Mercantil de Veracruz en Xalapa. Este hecho fue motivado por la ampliación del circuito financiero porteño, la existencia de un mercado de dinero y la compra de acciones realizada por miembros de la elite xalapeña. Un examen de los balances da a conocer la importancia del establecimiento de crédito en la economía xalapeña. Asimismo se estudian las operaciones bancarias de los clientes quienes, con la compra de documentos fiduciarios y la colocación de dinero en plazas extranjeras, se integraron a un circuito bancario internacional. La concentraci6n de operaciones, y su position económica y social en Xalapa, los llevó a ocupar la actividad de corresponsales o agentes que, ubicados en los lugares estratégicos, respaldaban la confianza de la Sucursal entregando créditos y realizando operaciones en los lugares más alejados de la ciudad.The Integration of the Xalapa Elite into the Financial Market through the Banco Mercantil de Veracruz in Xalapa (1904-1910)This article examines the integration of Xalapa's commercial and land holding elite into the international financial circuits of the Porfiriato (1904-1910). First, the article describes the creation of the branch of the Banco Mercantil de Veracruz in Xalapa. The expansion of the port of Veracruz's financial network, the existence of a credit market, and the purchase of shares by Xalapa's elite motivated the establishment of the new branch. An examination of the credit institution's balance sheets demonstrates its importance in the local economy. In addition, the paper studies the bank operations of the clients who, by purchasing fiduciary documents and investing in foreign markets, were drawn into the international banking network. The concentration of banking operations and their economic and social position made the local elite natural candidates for positions as bank correspondents or agents. These strategically placed correspondents strengthened the position of the bank's branch by granting credits and carrying out financial operations in locations far from the city.	es-ES
