dc.description	Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the regions with the highest rates of violence and crime in the world, situation that affects the effective exercise of human rights and becomes a serious obstacle for socioeconomic development. However, citizen secutrity should not be seen solely as a reduction in crime rates, but as the result of a policy that is oriented towards a comprehensive strategy. This strategy should include improving the quality of life of the population; Community action for crime prevention; an accessible, responsive and effective justice; as well as an education based on values, respect for law and tolerance. This article seeks to show the impact of some variables on these levels of violence and the effects of violence on society in general in the region.	en-US
dc.description	América Latina y el Caribe es una de las regiones con más altos índices de violencia ydelincuencia del mundo, situación que afecta el ejercicio efectivo de los derechos humanos y se convierte en un obstáculo serio para el desarrollo socioeconómico. Sin embargo, la seguridad ciudadana no debe ser vista exclusivamente como una reducción de los índices de delincuencia, sino como el resultado de una política que se oriente hacia una estrategia integral. Una estrategia que debe incluir la mejora de la calidad de vida de la población; la acción comunitaria para la prevención del delito; una justicia accesible, ágil y eficaz; una educación que se base en valores, en el respeto de la ley y la tolerancia. En este artículo se reflexiona sobre la incidencia de algunas variables sobre estos niveles de violencia así como los efectos de los mismos sobre la sociedad en general.	es-ES
