-This paper presents a contribution to the analysis of youth literacy and adult method "Yes I can" (Yo, sí puedo) developed in Cuba in 1999 and adopted in almost 30 countries, especially in Latin America. In Brazil the MST - Landless Workers Movement held a local adaptation and has been using this method in their areas of action since 2007. Although this broad coverage, there are few studies on the theoretical foundations of this method. In a preliminary analysis we can identify links with the historical-cultural theory developed by Vygotsky and collaborators, as well as elements of the thinking of Paulo Freire. Further analysis of these fundamentals is a key challenge for an intentional adoption and use of the method and could contribute to its improvement. New methods like this can be a great help to support public policies and actions of civil society organizations to accelerate the reduction of illiteracy among youth and adults in Brazil.-
