| Descripción : | This article reflects on caudillismo in the republican history of Venezuela. First, it analyzes the principal caudillos who fought in the war of independence, highlighting the leadership of José Tomás Boves in the popular rebellion of 1814. Then, it examines the role of caudillos in the popular insurrections of the post-independence period through the Federal War (1859-1863), principally the role of Ezequiel Zamora in the leadership of the peasant insurrections of that period. Finally, it presents an analysis of the role of Hugo Chávez Frías as the caudillo of the Bolivarian Revolution and its implications for the continuity of that process after his death. O texto traz uma reflexão sobre o caudilhismo na história republicana da Venezuela. De início, faz-se uma análise dos principais caudilhos que atuaram na guerra de independência, destacando a liderança de José Tomás Boves, na rebelião popular de 1814. Em seguida, retoma-se o papel dos caudilhos nas insurreições populares do pós-independência até a Guerra Federal (1859-1863), principalmente a ação de Ezequiel Zamora na condução das insurreições camponesas desse período. Por fim, apresenta-se uma análise do papel de Hugo Chávez Frías como caudilho da Revolução Bolivariana e suas implicações para a continuidade de todo o processo após sua morte. |
