dc.descriptionIndigenous communities have been dependent on nature to have their needs satisfied. In Mexico, the Otomí indigenous people occupy a part of the Hidalgo State. This territory is a semi-arid zone where the Cactaceae family is the most representative. This article aims to describe the traditional uses and knowledge associated with some Cactacea plants in the community El Alberto, in Hidalgo State (Mexico). A semi-structured interview on the plant uses was applied to 52 subjects. Fourteen species, distributed in 10 genuses were described. All of them showed at least two uses and nine categories were identified. This community provides an example of society-ecosystem relationship that is reflected on the biocultural heritage, which must be preserved.  en-US
dc.descriptionLas comunidades indígenas han dependido de la naturaleza para cubrir sus necesidades. En México, el pueblo indígena otomí habita parte del estado de Hidalgo. Dicho territorio es una zona semiárida, donde la familia Cactaceae es la mejor representada. El objetivo del presente trabajo es describir los usos y el conocimiento tradicional asociado a algunas cactáceas en la comunidad de El Alberto, en Hidalgo (México). Se aplicaron 52 entrevistas semiestructuradas sobre sus usos. Se registraron 14 especies, distribuidas en 10 géneros. Todas presentaron cuando menos dos usos, reconociéndose nueve categorías. Esta comunidad es un ejemplo de una relación entre sociedad y ecosistema que se refleja en el patrimonio biocultural, el cual debe ser preservado.es-ES
