Descripción :	This study compares, in contrast, two studies done in places and at different times of São Paulo, the state, more developed, from an economic standpoint, from Brazil. Defines as a basic objective was to compare the perception that individuals and groups residing in the camp have on the countryside and city, using this insight to justify their migration or absence of them. Aims to highlight the relationships that those processes have with the experience of poverty. From the viewpoint of time, the first of the studies was conducted in the early 70s of the twentieth century, in the Central Region of the state, systematically exploring the motivations for staying in rural areas. The time was characterized by significant frequency of studies on rural-urban migration. The study then conducted against the hand occurred in migratory movements. The second study took place at the beginning of the century, in the Pontal, with individuals and groups who, for the opportunity to open rural settlements by the State Government in the region, carried out the urban-rural migration and land reform saw a way to stay on the field. The Pontal do Paranapanema, located in the region of Presidente Prudente, in the western state of Sao Paulo, is the second poorest region in the state. The moment represented by the first study was therefore upgraded from the concerns raised in the second survey. Stands, however, the similarity of representations that have the city, which makes the studies so far apart in time and space, meaning connections. Este estudo compara, contrapondo, dois estudos feitos em locais e em momentos distintos do Estado de São Paulo. Tem, como objetivo básico, comparar a percepção que indivíduos e grupos residindo no campo têm sobre o campo e a cidade, utilizando essa percepção para justificar seus movimentos migratórios ou a ausência deles. Busca destacar as relações que esses processos têm com a vivência da pobreza. Do ponto de vista temporal, o primeiro dos estudos foi realizado no início da década de 70 do século XX, na Região Central do Estado, explorando sistematicamente as motivações para a permanência no meio rural. O momento se caracterizava pela frequência significativa de estudos sobre migração ruralurbana. O estudo então realizado aconteceu na contra mão dos movimentos migratórios. O segundo estudo realizou-se no início do século XXI, no Pontal do Paranapanema, com indivíduos e grupos que, pela oportunidade de assentamentos rurais aberto pelo Governo do Estado na região, realizaram a migração urbano-rural ou viram na reforma agrária uma forma de permanência no campo. O Pontal do Paranapanema, localizado na Região de Presidente Prudente, a oeste no Estado de São Paulo, é a segunda região mais pobre do Estado. O momento representado pelo primeiro estudo foi, portanto, atualizado a partir das preocupações suscitadas na segunda pesquisa. Sobressai, porém, a similitude das representações que se tem da cidade, o que confere, a estudos tão distantes no tempo e no espaço, conexões de sentido.
