dc.descriptionThe essay reviews the recent novel La mansión del olvido (The Mansion of Oblivion, 2015) by theSalvadoran author Mario Bencastro. It describes the narrator s journey to his homeland as a return to origins.The arrival involves a search of roots through a descenso ad inferos, by which the hero encounters his deadancestors. Particularly, he rediscovers his deceased father and reconstructs history to amend past actions in a questof utopia. The political projects of an ideal future depend on the narrator s place of recollection where past, presentand future happen. Describe el viaje del protagonista a su tierra natal como un retorno a los orígenes. El regreso involucrauna búsqueda de las raíces por un descenso a los infiernos, en el cual el protagonista encuentra a sus ancestrosmuertos. Particularmente, descubre a su padre difunto y reconstruye la historia para enmendar incidentespasados en su anhelo de utopía. Los proyectos políticos de un futuro ideal dependen del lugar de recolección, enel cual suceden el pasado, el presente y el futuro.
