Descripción :	During the democratic opening a new generation of black activists emerges into the publicspace, both in dialogue with and contrasting with the socialist left. The alternative press of thetime is the privileged space to analyze a tense debate that mobilizes the discursive repertoirerelating race to class. From this perspective, I investigate how this debate was portrayed in animportant alternative newspaper called Versus and I identify the privileged interlocutors of thissocialist generation that sought to intellectually articulate the ideas of race and class in thecontext of struggles for the democratization of Brazil. Durante a abertura democrática, uma nova geração de ativistas negros emerge no espaçopúblico em diálogo e em contraste com a esquerda socialista. A imprensa alternativa daépoca é o espaço privilegiado para flagrar o tenso debate que mobiliza o repertório discursivoque relaciona a raça à classe. Tendo isso em perspectiva, investigo o modo como tal debatefoi exposto num importante jornal alternativo, chamado Versus, e mostro quais eram osinterlocutores privilegiados dessa geração socialista que buscava articular intelectualmente obinômio raça e classe no contexto de lutas por democratização do país.
