Descripción :	This article analyzes in historical perspective the development of yellow fever in the city of Jaú, interior of São Paulo. Through printed sources and death records in articulation with the state of the art of historiography on yellow fever, it was possible to establish a relationship between the outbreak of the last decade of the 19th century and the municipality of Jaú. In a context in which the causative agent of yellow fever mobilized wide debates and discussions, whether nationally or internationally, we present the main theories under discussion in the scientific community. From the direct contagion hypothesis, through the idea of ​​miasmas to the acceptance of the mosquito as a vector, the objective is to connect this debate on a national and international level with its implications in our study site. It is therefore a question of understanding the actions taken by the local government, amidst the controversies, polemics and impacts caused by yellow fever in this municipality. At the end, it is intended to raise the profile of victims affected by the epidemic, strongly marked by the presence of foreigner workers. O presente artigo analisa em perspectiva histórica o desenvolvimento da febre amarela na cidade de Jaú, interior do Estado de São Paulo. Por meio de fontes impressas e registros de óbito, em articulação com o estado da arte da historiografia sobre febre amarela, foi possível estabelecer uma relação entre o surto da última década do Oitocentos e o município de Jaú. Apresentamos as principais teorias em discussão no meio científico, para então compreender as ações tomadas pelo poder local. Além disso, na pesquisa foram levantadas as controvérsias, polêmicas e impactos causados pela febre amarela neste município.
