dc.descriptionThis article analyses the role of iconography in writing from the specific case of Gustave Flaubert’s The Temptation of Saint Anthony (1874). Initially, we will approach the historical origins of the story of Saint Anthony and its iconographic reception in the Middle Ages. After that, we will evaluate how Flaubert’s narrative benefits from the repertoire of images on the theme of temptation and how the influence of iconography gains expression in the text. Finally, we will observe the processes of resignification and the modes of articulation between distinct languages (verbal and pictorial), to which the concept of hieroglyph, as seen in the light of theories of meaning, contributes.en-US
dc.descriptionO presente artigo procura desdobrar o papel da iconografia na escrita a partir do caso específico de As tentações de Santo Antão (1874), de Gustave Flaubert. Inicialmente, abordaremos as origens históricas do relato de Santo Antão e sua recepção iconográfica a partir da Idade Média. Em seguida, avaliaremos como a narrativa de Flaubert se beneficia do repertório de imagens sobre o tema das tentações e como a influência da iconografia ganha expressão no texto. Por fim, observaremos os processos de ressignificação e os modos de articulação entre linguagens distintas (verbal e pictórica), para o que contribui o conceito de hieróglifo, visto à luz das teorias do sentido.pt-BR
