dc.descriptiongeneral goal pursued by this work is toinvestigatethe images of mankind and their ways of narrating themselves as a remedy to the insatiable thirst for identities, whose theme is, in the literary field, a privileged matter for the novelistic genre. The paper consists of a reading proposal of this contemporary novel from character building strategies. The fictional figure is focused here as a phenomenon, which conditioned by the inherent temporality in the narrative setting process, highlights the constitutive nature of the self, allowing the reader to formulate pictures of the man in his full exercise of being. The post-colonial novel of African Literature, A river called time (2002), by Mia Couto, is analyzed from a thematic crossing of character, identity and memory. In this narrative, due to historical, social and cultural conditions, there is an incidence of themes that question, today, more keenly than in other literary fields, the formulation of identities.en-US
dc.descriptionInvestigar as imagens do homem e suas formas de narrar a si mesmo como remédio à insaciável sede de identidades, cuja temática é, no campo literário, matéria privilegiada pelo gênero romanesco, é o objetivo geral perseguido pelo presente trabalho. O artigo consiste numa proposta de leitura do romance contemporâneo a partir das estratégias de construção da personagem. A figura ficcional é focalizada, aqui, como fenômeno que, condicionado pela temporalização inerente ao processo de configuração narrativa, põe em evidência a natureza constitutiva do eu, possibilitando ao leitor a formulação de imagens do homem em plena atividade de ser. Mediante o cruzamento temático entre personagem, identidades e memória, analisa-se o romance pós-colonial das Literaturas Africanas, Um rio chamado tempo, uma casa chamada terra (2002), de Mia Couto, em cuja narrativa, devido às condições históricas, sociais e culturais, observa-se a incidência de temas que problematizam, hoje, de forma mais aguda que em outros espaços literários, a formulação das identidades.pt-BR
