dc.description | The present study validated a scale to measure the cognitive emotional regulation in a Mexican sample. The aim was to assess the validity of the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ), and to examine its divergent validity, based on instruments previously validated. The sample had 464 Mexican youth (332 women and 132 men); the age ranged between 18 and 33 years. Most of them (98.2%) were single. The design was instrumental, transversal, and non-experimental. Besides the CERQ, other instruments were used to measure anger (ML-STAXI), fear (IESM), depression (BDI), and anxiety (BAI). Responses were collected with the platform SurveyMonkey. As a result, the original CERQ 9-factor model showed poor fit in the confirmatory factor analysis (CFI = .853). The exploratory factor analysis yielded seven valid factors: Refocus positively on the plans (8 items, α = .86), Rumination (5 items, α = .78), Blaming on the others (4 items, α = .77), Self-blame (3 items, α = .76), Catastrophizing (4 items, α = .77), Putting in perspective (4 items, α = .70), and Refocus on the positive (3 items, α = .72). The cognitive nature of the CERQ showed divergence with emotional and behavioral variables of previous instruments. As a conclusion, the factors found with the CERQ represent valid and reliable constructs, with potential for programs that want to attend and strengthen the emotional regulation. | en-US |
