Descripción :	This article undertakes a comparative analysis of constructions of the other and the otherness in accounts of the discovery, exploration and conquest of America and Siberia in the 15th to17th centuries. It is important to emphasize that in spite of the abundant material on these subject in both textual and graphical sources (maps, drawings, engravings and book illustrations), and important contributions to the theory of otherness in human history, until now there are no comparative works on the image of American native peoples in Spanish chronicles of discovery, exploration, and conquest of the New World and the aboriginal peoples of Siberia in Russian chronicles of the same period. This article aims to elucidate parallels in the construction of the other and the otherness in Spanish and Russian chronicles and to identify their origins in their cultural and historical contexts. Special attention is given to the supposed monstrosity of the indigenous population of America and Siberia and the origins of this stereotypic image in the science of classical antiquity. Este artículo se enfoca en el análisis comparativo de la construcción del otro y de la alteridad en los relatos sobre el descubrimiento y exploración, en la conquista de América y Siberia en los siglos XV-XVII. Cabe subrayar que, a pesar de abundancia de material sobre el tema en fuentes alfabéticas y gráficas (mapas, dibujos, grabados e ilustraciones de libros) y su importancia para el planteamiento teórico de la construcción de la alteridad en la historia humana, a día de hoy faltan estudios comparativos de la imagen de los indígenas de América en las crónicas de descubrimiento, exploración y conquista del Nuevo Mundo por los españoles con el retrato de los pueblos originarios de Siberia en las crónicas rusas del mismo período cronológico. Por lo tanto, este artículo tiene dos objetivos principales: rastrear los paralelos de la construcción del otro y de la alteridad en crónicas españolas y rusas e identificar sus orígenes en base al contexto histórico-cultural. Se presta atención particular a la supuesta monstruosidad de la población indígena de América y de Siberia y los orígenes de esta imagen estereotipada en las obras históricas de la Antigüedad Clásica.
