| dc.description | Conceptual tropes are figures of classical rhetoric considered to be mechanisms of the mind, which are therefore susceptible to expression in language, as well as in graphics, artefacts and gestures. They formed the means of communication between the two worlds, the visible and the invisible, in which the inhabitants of central Mexico believed before the conquest. In order to help decipher the divinatory codices, the article defines the three main tropes - synecdoche, metonymy and metaphor - as well as metalepsis and silepsis and shows how they were combined with "definition by extension" which produces a series of signs. It concludes by proving the validity of this method of analysis on glyphs related to war and sacrifice and bringing to light various nuances of their meaning. | en-US |
| dc.description | Los tropos conceptuales son figuras de la retórica clásica consideradas como mecanismos de la mente, que por lo tanto son susceptibles de expresarse en el lenguaje, así como en gráficos, artefactos y gestos. Ellos conformaban el medio de comunicación entre los dos mundos, el visible y el invisible, en los que creían los habitantes del centro de México antes de la conquista. Con el fin de ayudar al desciframiento de los códices adivinatorios, el artículo define los tres tropos principales –sinécdoque, metonimia y metáfora– así como la metalepsis y la silepsis y muestra cómo se combinaban con la “definición por extensión” que produce series de signos. Termina probando la validez de este método de análisis sobre los glifos relacionados con la guerra y el sacrificio y poniendo a la luz varios matices de su significado. | es-ES |
