| Descripción : | The Huichapan Codex is a fundamental historiographical source to understand the Late Posclasic Mesoamerican Period, and the first century of the Hispanic domination of Mexico´s basin during the first half of the 17th century. The Codex contains pictographs and alphabetic glosses in náhuatl and otomi / hñahñu, arranged in four parts. The fourth section of this codex has a vision about the war between Tenochtitlan and Azcapotzalco, where Itzcóatl, fourth Mexica-Tenochca Tlahtoani, was represented in the codex as the leader of the expansionist politics of his group towards the Huichapan/ Jilotepec region. This article analyzes the Itzcóatl representations in the narrative structure of the codex, and the traduction of the hñahñu gloses realized by Lawrence Ecker and Manuel Alvarado Guinchard respectively. El Códice de Huichapan es una fuente historiográfica clave para comprender el periodo Posclásico Tardío y el primer siglo de dominación hispana al norte de la Cuenca de México, producida durante la primera mitad del siglo XVII. El Códice está compuesto por pictografías y glosas alfabéticas en náhuatl y otomí / hñahñu, dispuesto en cuatro partes. Su cuarta sección comprende una versión particular sobre la guerra entre Tenochtitlan y Azcapotzalco, donde Itzcóatl, cuarto tlahtoani mexicatenochca, fue representado como fundador de las políticas expansionistas de su grupo hacia la región de Huichapan/Jilotepec. Este artículo analiza las representaciones de Itzcóatl siguiendo la estructura narrativa del códice, así como la traducción de las glosas en hñahñu realizadas por Lawrence Ecker y Manuel Alvarado Guinchard, respectivamente. |
