| Descripción : | This paper analyzes the representations of Mapuche otherness and polygamy in the nineteenth century historiography. The compilation of information from sources of the period revealed that the predominant opinions targeted specific objectives. Particularly important was the argument of the need for eradicating and transforming Mapuche customs, by denigrating their traditional social organization. This argument was sustained based on the victimization of Mapuche woman, a discursive element that has been scarcely investigated in Chile. El texto realiza un análisis sobre las representaciones de la otredad mapuche y la poligamia en la historiografía decimonónica. A partir de la recopilación de información, proveniente de fuentes de la época, se desvela que las opiniones predominantes apuntaban a objetivos específicos. Fue de especial importancia desplegar argumentos que ratificaran la necesidad de erradicar y transformar las costumbres mapuche. Para ello fue crucial denostar la organización social tradicional a través de un antecedente escasamente investigado en Chile: victimizar a las mujeres en el relato histórico. |
