dc.descriptionThe phonological inventory of Quechua dialects contains at least three palatalconsonants: /č, ɲ, λ/ (orthographically represented by <ch>, <ñ> and <ll>, respectively), to which it should be added one more, /š/ (spelled as <sh>), among the Northern-Central varieties of the languages only. These segments, aside from their occurrence restriction within the syllabic structure of the language, play a highly productive distinctive role. However, beyond this basic property, they also play an expressive function no less important, that of conveying littleness, thinness, delicacy, and what is more general semantically speaking, affectivity. In the present paper, attention will be paid to this important phenomenon highly used among Quechua dialects, not only at the lexical-semantic and grammatical level, and in the formation of nicknames, but also in other registers such as child speech and as stylistic resource in the traditional oral literature.en-US
dc.descriptionLos inventarios fonológicos de los dialectos quechuas registran por lo menos tres consonantes palatales, a saber /č, ɲ, λ/ (representadas por <ch>, <ñ> y <ll>, respectivamente), a las cuales se suma una más en las variedades centro-norteñas: la /š/ (graficada como <sh>). Tales segmentos, al margen de su restricción de ocurrencia dentro de la estructura silábica de la lengua, desempeñan un rol distintivo altamente productivo. Más allá de esta función básica, sin embargo, ellas juegan también un rol expresivo no menos importante: el de pequeñez, delgadez, delicadeza, y, de manera más general, el de afectividad. En la presente contribución se llamará la atención sobre este fenómeno bastante socorrido entre los dialectos quechuas no solo en el nivel léxico-semántico y gramatical sino también en la réplica del habla infantil, en la formación de los hipocorísticos, y como recurso estilístico en la literatura oral tradicional.es-ES
