Descripción :	This article shows the historical relations between Canada and Latin America and the Caribbean –Cuba in particular– from the days in which contemporary countries in the region had not been constituted as national states. Supported on the historical method and the bibliographic revision, the aim of the analysis is to dig in the essence of the present Latin-American integration process and the reestablishment of democracy in the regional context, a fact that is revealed through the existence of progressivist governments of nowadays. At the same time, the objective is to go deep into the connection between the American Third World and Canada as an alternative to the regional development, as well as in foretelling the possible alignment of this big country in the frame of the recently held Summit of the Americas in connection with previous CELAC summits. El presente artículo arroja luz sobre las relaciones históricas de Canadá con América Latina y el Caribe –especialmente Cuba-, desde momentos en que los actuales países de la región ni siquiera se habían constituido como Estados nacionales e independientes. Amparado en el método histórico y la revisión bibliográfico-documental, el análisis se propone desentrañar las esencias del proceso actual de integración latinoamericana, y el restablecimiento de la democracia en el contexto regional, que se expresa en la existencia de gobiernos de corte progresista. Asimismo, es objetivo ahondar en la conexión del Tercer Mundo americano con Canadá como alternativa al desarrollo, y vaticinar el posible alineamiento de esta potencia en el marco de la reciente Cumbre de las Américas, y con el trasfondo de las precedentes cumbres de la Celac.
