dc.descriptionThis article reflects on the dynamics and strategies that stigmatized and marginalized groups use to overcome that status and turns to the Afro-American case and the Dalits to illustrate these strategies. The paper shows that the Character Work, that is, the work of identifying and responding to the identifications imposed, creates certain dilemmas for the groups involved in the context of “Character Wars”. Those are a type of cultural conflict that take place between oppressors and oppressed and involves the identities of both. The approaching dilemma shows an emotional management used strategically to vindicate the status of the marginalized. The text concludes with a call to be concreted and to observe the dynamics of the groups with the intention of working on the construction of strategies and not the other way around, imposing essences on the particularities. en-US
dc.descriptionEste artículo reflexiona sobre las dinámicas y estrategias que emplean los grupos estigmatizados y marginalizados para salir de ese estatus, acudiendo al caso de los afroamericanos y los dalit para ilustrar dichas estrategias. La reflexión muestra que el trabajo de caracterización, es decir, el trabajo de identificarse y responder a las caracterizaciones impuestas crea ciertos dilemas para los grupos involucrados en el contexto de “las guerras de caracterización”. Estas son un tipo de conflicto cultural que sucede entre opresores y oprimidos y que involucra sus identidades. En la manera en la que abordan los dilemas, los grupos muestran un manejo emocional que es utilizado estratégicamente para reivindicar el estatus de los marginalizados. Se concluye con un llamado a la concreción y a observar las dinámicas de los grupos para que a partir de ellas se trabaje en la construcción de estrategias y no al revés, imponiendo esencias a las particularidades.es-ES
