Lack of integration or inability to integrate is what European xenophobic political parties use as their basis for anti-immigration policies. This strategy lies in what has been called crisis of values in western liberal democracies. This article aims to narrow the theoretical framework that surrounds the concept of integration. In doing so, the concept would be more specific and could be developed into indicators. It will be concluded that integration is about the “self-” and identity, and, therefore, individual. This will lead to a proposal: projects that promote intercultural dialogue based on the respect of human rights and law; and the importance of other factors –such as economic ones– as determinants in the exclusion of some groups.en-US
